Gumption uses GoBeyond AI DataBridge to transform SAP processes, improve data quality and free up valuable time
AI DataBridge improves SAP data quality: AI identifies gaps, validates information and writes it directly back into SAP Business ByDesign.
Processes become more efficient: Gumption is using AI to reduce manual work across the order-to-cash process, including timesheet checks, sales-order linking and invoicing.
A standardised approach across the Group: use cases and processes can be reused across Gumption’s companies rather than developed as one-off solutions

About The Gumption Group
Gumption unites digitally inspired entrepreneurs from 14 brands in the Benelux into one ecosystem for innovation and growth. These companies are start-ups or scale-ups. Today, Gumption employs around 800 people across 8 offices.
The Challenge
Gumption relied on SAP Business ByDesign for important business information, but the Group faced real limitations in how easily that information could be accessed. As Gumption began exploring how AI could improve its business processes, it was clear that the quality and accessibility of the data held in SAP Business ByDesign needed to improve first. Better master data would provide the foundation for future AI initiatives.
Benjamin Kindt, Excellence Partner, The Gumption Group, says, “We needed a way to identify gaps, retrieve the right information and get validated data back into SAP, without relying on manual investigation. If we wanted AI to do useful work for us, getting that master data foundation right had to come before anything else.”
The Solution
Gumption turned to GoBeyond AI DataBridge from The Value Chain to close that gap. AI DataBridge connects Gumption’s SAP Business ByDesign environment to its AI tools, giving the Group a way to improve its data while opening up new opportunities to automate processes across the organisation.
The first use case was customer classification. Gumption uses AI to review its customer records, identify missing information, such as the industry a customer operates in, and write that information directly back into SAP Business ByDesign, rather than relying on manual entry.
From there, Gumption focused on a broader opportunity to use AI across its order-to-cash process, bringing together teams from different clusters across the Group to examine each stage of the journey, from capturing leads in HubSpot and creating opportunities in SAP Business ByDesign, through to contracts, project setup, timesheets and invoicing. The output provides a standardised approach that benefits every business in the group.
Invoicing has become one of the clearest opportunities. Today, the process involves multiple manual steps to trigger invoices in SAP Business ByDesign. Gumption is building a dashboard that brings these control points together in one place, so staff can see what needs attention and act directly. The longer-term ambition of the system will be to create invoices automatically once the relevant checks are complete.
A more recent use case moves beyond process efficiency into decision support. Using AI DataBridge, Gumption built a cash liquidity forecast that pulls open invoices, banks and other cash-relevant data directly from SAP Business ByDesign and turns it into a forward view of the Group’s cash position.
Security and permissions were a key part of the design. AI DataBridge acts as a bridge between SAP Business ByDesign and the AI agent rather than storing business information itself. Access is linked to each user’s existing SAP permissions, so nobody can see more through the AI tool than they could already see in SAP.
Benjamin highlights, “This solution gives us the opportunity to extract data in a much more efficient way. We can improve our processes and ensure that our master data is of a quality high enough to run those processes.”
Building a pipeline of AI opportunities
Rather than treating AI DataBridge as a single project with a fixed end point, the Group is working through its business processes to identify where AI help do things more efficiently. That is creating a growing pipeline of use cases with the potential to extend beyond SAP Business ByDesign to other systems connected through AI DataBridge.
Benefits
- Cleaner SAP master data: gaps are identified automatically and validated information is written straight back into SAP Business ByDesign.
- Less manual admin: AI reduces time spent on timesheet checks, sales-order linking and invoice creation.
- Simpler invoicing: a single dashboard brings multiple invoice control points together, making it easier to see and act on what needs attention.
- Better visibility of cash and liquidity: AI DataBridge gives Gumption a forward view of its cash position, helping the Group anticipate needs and manage cash proactively.
- Standardised processes across the Group: the approach can be reused across Gumption’s companies, creating a consistent way to improve processes with AI.
- Stronger data governance: AI access is mapped to each user’s existing SAP permissions so nothing is exposed beyond what they could already see.
- Faster access to SAP information: AI DataBridge enables users to extract and work with SAP data more efficiently.
